Believe it or not, I rarely engrave anything for myself. I don’t know if other engravers can say the same, however it is one of those strange things where I engrave so much for others on site or for various projects around Houston that when it comes to myself, it is never even a thought.

This candle was given to me and the request was made that I engrave my own name on it. After I provided a puzzled look, I complied. I rather like it. First time for everything :)

Creed Fragrance Bottle - Houston Engraver

I had the wonderful opportunity to engrave a beautiful message in calligraphy in this Creed fragrance bottle for an equally beautiful lady. This was to be a gift to her darling for Valentine’s Day. i loved the result of this fragrance bottle and I understand that this gentleman adored the engraved result as well. Cheers!

Jo Malone Mother's Day Engraving Event - Houston Engraver

It was such a pleasure engraving calligraphy here in Houston for Jo Malone Fragrances last week leading up to Mother's Day.  It's so amazing how much you can learn about other disciplines from engraving calligraphy for them.  For instance, did you know that you can "layer" fragrances meaning that you may wear various fragrances at the same time to create a customized fragrance just for you?  Ok, so maybe I was the only person that didn't know that likely because I don't shop.  Jo Malone's fragrances are on the minimalist side in that they use far less ingredients than other brands making them perfect for layering.

Did you know that many of the Jo Malone fragrances are unisex?  I didn't know that.  Between engraving, the amazing ladies, Marjory & Nadia, helped me find my perfect scents at the Macy's at Memorial City Mall.  I love floral and sweet scents with a little flirty feel.  Sure enough, they created fragrances that were perfect for me.  Love it!

Stella Artois Chalice Engraving - Houston Engraving

As you know, engraving events are one of my favorite outlets for calligraphy.  I am pleased to say that I will be engraving calligraphy on chalices for Stella Artois and Anheuser-Busch roughly every weekend between now and September.  To say the least, this is going to be SO MUCH FUN!   Let's do this!

Engraving calligraphy in a glass canvas is truly my jam.  Over the last few months, I have developed a preference for #8 carbide burs for engraving wine & spirit bottles.  Years ago, I wouldn't touch a size 8 bur with a 10 foot pole.  It takes much more control than the smaller burs.  But oddly enough, the more you engrave, the simpler some things feel.   Who'd've thought?!  I can now take 1 #8 bur and engrave for an entire event (and sometimes another event) for wine & spirit bottles.  I have found it to be more cost effective and I prefer the look of the lettering as it yields a deeper, smoother cut.  I will admit that the glass in the picture was engraved with an 8 that i keep around the studio, so it's not fresh, but still did a great job.  OK, enough geeking out on engraving calligraphy.

Gucci Fragrance Bottle Engraving in Houston

As always, it is a pleasure engraving for clients at events here in Houston.  This weekend, I had the privilege of working with Gucci fragrances.  Gucci Bamboo has become a personal favorite and is clearly a favorite of others as well.  It figuratively flew off of the shelves this Mother's Day weekend.  This bottle was also incredibly easy to engrave.  Even better! Marc Jacobs Fragrance Engraving Event - Houston Engraver

Engraving Events - Houston Engraver

December was amazing!  Estaba muy ocupada!  I was insanely busy!  As of the last few years, I have made it a habit to close my Etsy shop from late November through December due to the busy engraving/calligraphy calendar outside of the Etsy shop.  It is truly an honor and a pleasure to engrave at events all around the city for fragrance companies and wine & spirit companies.  The last wine event that I worked for Kenwood wines at Spec's Midtown had an unexpected request.  There was a client that purchased bottles for her loved one, but also purchased a corkscrew to include as a gift.  Makes sense...  While I was engraving her bottles, she asked if I could engrave the corkscrew as well.  When it comes to these requests, I ALWAYS direct them to the company representative that is paying for me to be there.  At the end of the day, I want for all parties involved to be pleased...especially the party that is paying me :).  The representative said, "sure, why not?"  So to make a short story shorter, I engraved her metal corkscrew with the gentleman's last name as she watched.  Voila!  Cheers!

Fragrance Bottle Engraving - Houston Engraver

Quite often, I am asked "so you are a calligrapher/penman/engraver?  How do you make a living at that?"  Well, here is one way....fragrance bottle engraving.  The last 2 weeks have been fragrance bottle engraving events nonstop for Mother's Day.  I LOVE IT!  It was such a pleasure working with Prada, Calvin Klein, Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs and Chloe yesterday.  

I love that I am able to use my love of hand lettering, calligraphy & engraving AND make a living.  Who could ask for more?  If you noticed that my business is making a departure from wedding invitation design and wedding envelope addressing, you would be correct.  I absolutely ADORE making the reception pieces (tiles, agate stones, mirror seating charts, laser cut wood calligraphy) and those will REMAIN as interestingly they have become what I am known for :).  Hope you enjoy this journey as much as I am.  Cheers!
