Cartier Fragrance - Houston Engraver
I’ve had the pleasure of engraving fragrance bottles for Cartier for a number of years now. To say that it is always a pleasure would be an understatement. Cartier is nearly the epitome of service, aesthetics and grace conspiring together to create a feeling that you cannot quite describe, but everyone who enters feels. From the manner in which you are greeted to the kindness of every individual present, it is a pleasure.
The bottles pictured above have compelled me to post because recently an engraver asked me how to engrave them. Pasha is one of those bottles of fragrance that ranks among Cartier’s best-sellers. If you engrave for Cartier, I guarantee that this bottle will be placed on your table. From an engraver’s perspective, you have to know how to work with this material. This is one of those situations where “glass is not glass”. This glass is textured AND dark, hence it is extremely unforgiving. No old burs here. Only a fresh bur will do. On top of that, the space that you have to engrave is small and most of the bottle is covered in ridges. With that said, I love this bottle….now. As a new engraver, this bottle can be intimidating. However, as with anything, time and experience makes everything easy. With the right thoughts in mind, this bottle can engrave beautifully. Just remember that it is not your garden variety glass and you can not approach it as such.
