Jo Malone Engraving Event in Houston
Engraving fragrance bottles at Jo Malone London’s Houston boutiques is always a pleasure. This particular bottle was engraved at a Dillard’s event in Sugarland to celebrate the anniversary of a lovely couple. The glass on this bottle is quite common in the fragrance industry. There are benefits to engraving in dark glass. Primarily, the engraving looks much more pronounced in dark glass. Here, I filled the lettering with gold. As we all know gold becomes even more noticeable against a black background. As long as your lettering is clean and, above all beautiful, the lettering will look gorgeous in dark glass. One disadvantage to engraving in dark glass is that there are bound to be scratches in glass. Period. Oftentimes, the bottle may have scratches in the glass before you as an engraver even receive it. On top of that, as you are engraving it, glass dust enraptures the bottle. Even though that glass dust is very fine, that dust can still scratch the glass although you may brush it off gently with a makeup brush. Then when you add color, that color will highlight your lettering AND the scratches. Have no fear, there are ways to minimize this. I personally used separate towels for clear glass and dark glass. There are other tricks that I use to minimize the appearance of scratches, but they are so simple that I won’t insult your intelligence :). You are too good for that!
Cheers!
